Natural Medicine or Naturopathy, meaning “nature cure” is a system of medicine based on the belief that our bodies have an innate ability to heal. The patient is viewed as a complex, interrelated system - a whole person and the focus is on promoting health through natural, non-toxic therapies including nutrition, lifestyle modifications, herbal remedies and other therapies. The aim is to empower each individual to achieve his or her best level of health.

Health and natural therapies have always been an interest of mine, so when I learned that exercise can prevent and treat certain chronic disease conditions it was only natural for me to pursue an Honors degree in Biokinetics (“Life through movement”). I left private practice for a few years to work for a multi-national pharmaceutical company but soon longed to return to private practice, which I did in 2005. I guess I have always been a bit of a cross-thinker, but my interest in natural therapies, remedies and solutions influence the way I view disease. The body is dynamic, a complex interconnection between the physical, mind and emotions. I wanted to understand this interconnectedness, how the imbalance in one area lead to a multitude of symptoms and the systems involved. I wanted to understand how we can truly prevent disease and address the underlying causes of disease. Remember that health is measured along a wellness continuum, something I learned in Biokinetics already, but never understood how we can intervene at every stage of the spectrum to restore and improve health and wellness.

I embarked on post graduate courses in Functional Medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine USA, soon after that a post graduate course in Translational nutrigenomics. I am a board certified comprehensive iridologist and qualified Doctor of Natural Medicine. Currently a PhD candidate at the University of America.

I value the story of the patient and want to partner with each patient in order to understand, educate and improve their health and lifestyle.

  • Doctor of Natural Medicine 2016 - 2021 (D.N.M, University of Natural Medicine Intl.)

  • Board Certified Iridologist (International Iridology Practitioners Association)

  • Translational Nutrigenomics 2016 - 2017

  • Functional Medicine 2015 - 2016 (A.F.M.I.C.P)

  • B.A. Hons Biokinetics 1989 - 1992 (university of North-West, S.A)

It is not the ONE thing that we do or teach that relieves the pain or improves your health, but rather the collective change that comes along with restoring function and balance, changing your lifestyle, improving movement, managing your stress and understanding the root cause for ill health.

Programmes & Tests

  • Nutrigenomics: Gene Tests

Prevent chronic disease, delay ageing, improve weight loss and take your sport to the next level.

Nutrigenomics is the scientific study of the interaction between nutrition, environment, exercise, lifestyle and your genes, especially with regard to the prevention and treatment of disease.

As a qualified Nutrigenomics practitioner your genetic results are interpreted to personalise your diet, lifestyle and exercise routine to prevent and treat current disease conditions.

Your genetic risk is not absolute, so you are not a victim of your genes! We all have a mixture of "good" and "bad" traits embedded in our genes, but no genetic message is etched in stone. Your individual genetic profile, together with how you choose to live (what you eat, drink, sleep, exercise and breathe), are the major determinants of how your risk will play out over time.

When you gather the information you need to make healthier choices, you empower yourself and optimise your individual potential - you can change your genetic destiny!

I am an accredited practitioner with:

    3x4 Genetics

    DNAlysis

    Geneway

  • Food Intolerance

Almost 45% of all people experience food sensitivities or food intolerance. A food intolerance refers to a reaction towards certain foods when a person has difficulty digesting a particular food, but does not present with immediate reactions as with an allergy. A food intolerance and a food allergy are not the same, it is not life-threatening, but can lead to symptoms such as digestive- , neurological- , respiratory- , skin- and muscle or joint symptoms, fatigue and skin conditions.

Assessing the foods you are intolerant to and excluding them from your diet will reduce symptoms within a few days, helping you feel great, improving your health, reducing pain, inflammation, weight, and digestive symptoms.

    Symptoms associated with food intolerance:

    ~Abdominal pain

    ~Aches and pains

    ~Acne

    ~Bloating

    ~Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

    ~Constipation

    ~Diarrhea

    ~Eczema

    ~Headaches

    ~Hyperactivity

    ~IBS

    ~Mood disorders

    ~Migraines

    ~Sinusitis

~Unexplained weight gain or weight loss

These tests will be done in conjunction with a consultation to get your medical history and better understand your symptoms and environment. (See “Your assessment or consultation”)

  • Metabolic Detoxification

Metabolic detoxification refers to the body’s physiological process that gets rid of chemicals, compounds, hormones and by-products of metabolism. Chemicals are everywhere, in the air, food, water, soil, dust, and everyday products. These toxic chemicals can accumulate in your body and affect your overall health, causing hormonal imbalances, pains, fatigue, brain fog, etc.

If you experience any of the following symptoms, consider a metabolic detox:

Feeling less vibrant or healthy than others your age?

~ Feeling low in energy despite enough sleep?

    ~ Have difficulty thinking clearly?

~ Feeling depressed or have a low mood?

~ Suffering from more than one or two colds a year? (or other infections)

~ Suffering from PMS, fibrocystic breast tissue, or uterine fibroids?

~ Have aches and pains for no reason?

Added stress, a diet lacking in certain nutrients, your lifestyle, infections, etc. can overwhelm natural processes to help you eliminate these toxins and metabolic end products, leaving you feeling not your best self.

The Clear Change Programme enhances the body’s natural metabolic detoxification process, while providing adequate fuel for both cleansing and other daily activities.

Getting healthier is important, and so is feeling your best!

What to expect at a Natural Medicine Consultation

Prior to our first consultation I may ask for some questionnaires to be completed - this gives us a guide to steer the consultation in the right direction.

During your first consultation, I will obtain a complete medical history. The key to functional medicine is treating each person as an individual and understanding his/ her environment or circumstances as well as genetic predispositions. This generally entails a detailed conversation about your current state of health, health history, family history, diet, lifestyle habits, and previous injury or trauma.

A physical assessment will follow, and lab work (blood tests) may be ordered.

This visit will last approximately 60 minutes and is primarily an information gathering and sharing session. I may make some simple recommendations at this time, but most advice and a recommendations will be deferred until the 2nd contact session.

The purpose of a consultation is not to make a diagnosis but rather to understand the imbalances, triggers and mediators that have lead to ill health or chronic disease and the aim of the treatment is to restore health and vitality through natural processes with nutritional interventions, herbal or nutraceutical use and lifestyle modifications.

Please note that I do not intend to replace your physician.
